SPEAKER

Bob Welch

SCRIPTURE

Ephesians 3:14-21

BIG IDEA

Unconditional love flows from a changed heart, which begins with humble prayer.

OUTLINE

  1. If we are to embody this “love that surpasses knowledge” it must begin by bowing before God.
  2. Bowing to God allows the Holy Spirit to work through us in love.
  3. Allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us reminds us of how unfathomable God’s love is.
  4. Being reminded of God’s unfathomable love speaks of His ability and desire to change our hearts and love

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. If kneeling is a symbol of humility before God, what are some symbols—or examples—of pride in defiance of God?
  2. Does prayer seem more reactive or proactive to you? In your life, how has it played out? How do you want it to?
  3. Think of a time when you got real with God about where you were in your life. Assuming it broke down barriers between you and Him, why did it do so? What is it about humbling yourself before God that creates connection with Him?
  4. What did C.S. Lewis mean when he said we are “like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea?”
  5. In verse 19 Paul talks about “knowing the love that surpasses knowledge.” At this point in your life, do you know this love Paul describes? If yes, name one way it affects your daily life. If no, what is one reason that keeps you from embracing it?
