SCRIPTURE
Matthew 1:18-25
BIG IDEA
Feeling betrayed but filled with love.
OUTLINE
- Think it through
- Release your anger by acknowledging it.
- Revenge never works
- Have a long conversation with God.
- Accept God’s love and give it away.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Discuss with the group a time you were betrayed and what happened.
- We can most likely relate to Joseph’s initial feelings of betrayal, confusion, and, probably, anger when he learned of Mary’s pregnancy. What can we learn from how he responded?
- Mary’s situation was obviously incredibly unique, but it does show that many times there are multiple sides to a story. Describe a time when you benefitted from someone taking time to hear your side of a story.
- Joseph demonstrates that when we pause in the midst of emotionally charged situations and listen to God, His wisdom can provide us with wise ways to act. Identify a situation where you need to pause and listen to God’s wisdom before you act. Pray for each other in each of these situations?
NEXT STEPS
- The next time I feel betrayed, I will pause and think about the situation and allow God’s love to fill me before responding.
