SCRIPTURE

Colossians 3

SERMON OUTLINE

Criticism Sabotages Relationships

Appreciation Energizes Relationships

1. Accept their flaws

2. Forgiveness is letting go not forgetting

3. Trust = words plus actions over time

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What one piece of criticism leveled at you in your past seems to stick the most? In other words, those words still resonate in your mind to this day. Do you believe the criticism was fair? Why or why not?
  2. Describe one situation in your life for which, if possible, you would really like to get revenge. How different would your life be if you could get revenge?
  3. Pastor Steve suggested that moving from criticism to appreciation in relationships is crucial for the health of the relationship. How possible is it for a person (you?) to make long-lasting changes in a relationship without God’s help? Got an example?
  4. If you are feeling unfairly criticized in some relationship right now, take a moment to identify the situation and ask your small group to pray along with you for the person and the health of the relationship.

MY NEXT STEP

  • Make a commitment to move from criticism to appreciation in a difficult relationship.
  • Ask God to help me love someone who is criticizing me right now.
  • Something else?
