SCRIPTURE

2 Thessalonians 3:6-13

BIG IDEA

When it comes to your job, it’s not what you do but how you do it.

SERMON OUTLINE

  1. God expects me to work.
  2. Laziness provokes conflict.
  3. Be busy and productive.
  4. Careers can be idols.
  5. How we work points people to Jesus.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Describe what your first job was like. Was it enjoyable or not so much?
  2. What do you believe is the root of entitlement or laziness? Why is that the case?
  3. If you are a mom, do you believe your work has immeasurable value? (Hint: The correct answer is “Yes.”) Discuss the current issues surrounding a Mom’s work.
  4. If you follow Jesus, do you believe the way you work can point people to Jesus—or not? Why?
  5. Does God’s grace toward you motivate you to work hard (out of gratitude)? Why or why not?

NEXT STEPS

  • I need to access my work ethic and how I use my time.
  • I must determine if my current job is healthy for me or if I need to make a change.
  • Pray: offer your life to God as an act of trust
  • Something else?
