DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Do you tend to seek security or thrive in taking risks? Why? Give an example.
  2. If, motivated by God’s grace, we take a risk in a situation but see no immediate positive results, how do we decide if that risk was a success or not?
  3. Think back to the Bishop’s actions with Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Even though he gives Valjean the silver and buys his soul, he doesn’t know how the story ends. Discuss the truth of this statement for Jesus-followers: Successful risk-taking depends on the result and less about the motivation of your heart. Explain your position.
  4. How healthy is it to compare ourselves to others in regard to risk taking? Explain.
  5. Because we’re all at different stages of following Jesus, taking risks will look different for each of us. What is one risk you need to embrace, trusting that God loves you fearlessly?
